Did you know 11% of the homeless population in the US are veterans? That means on average, about 40,000 veterans are homeless on any given night. Most homeless veterans suffer from psychological disorders such as PTSD but have not received the resources necessary to seek treatment. This leads to many homeless veterans falling into alcohol and substance abuse, and sometimes even suicide. Like everyone else, veterans need the basics—secure housing, nutritious meals, and basic health care. But veterans also need extra help transitioning back into civilian society after serving in the military—treatment for mental illness, alcohol, and substance abuse, and personal and professional development to compete for steady employment. Aside from visiting the Support the Homeless Veterans website at http://www.supporthomelessveterans.org/index.php, see the Resources page on this website for more information on where to get help.
